Lib Dems Stand Up for Boothby Park

Cllr Mark Weldon and Grace Baynham recently visited Boothby Park in Great Moor following a number of reports from residents and visitors to the park.

A large overflow tank for sewage and water run off is causing problems, stemming from its 3 metre high chimney vent that regularly emits a foul smell, literally metres from people’s gardens and the park where children can play and people can walk their dogs.

The tank was installed by United Utilities and this has led to Boothby Park becoming increasingly unusable. Numerous grids have been placed in the park with sections of grass removed and concreted over.

In addition to allow access for vehicles to the tank, a large area has had small concrete slabs inserted with grass growing over them. As these are difficult to see, several wooden posts have been built to indicate where vehicles can park.

Cllr Weldon expressed his frustration saying:

Boothby Park was originally built for the children of Stockport as the plaque on the park entrance says. However, half of the park is now unusable if you wanted to play football, for example, due to the haphazard spread of concrete, grids and wooden posts. It’s not acceptable.

I’ve asked that this issue be placed on the agenda for the next Area Committee meeting at the Town Hall on 30th January and United Utilities have been invited to explain why it is necessary that a large section of the park is now wasted space as far as the public who use it are concerned.

The Area Committee meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 30th January, Committee Room 2 at the Town Hall at 18:00. Members of the public are welcome to attend. For more information see following linkĀ http://democracy.stockport.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=136&MId=23237&Ver=4

Watch out for an update on this issue soon.
