Reporting Back in Woodsmoor and Mirrlees

by Matthew Roberts on 9 November, 2017

Recently while in the area around Flowery Field and Cromley Road we picked up a number of issues raise by residents. We can now report back on the concerns raised.

We found that a number of residents were concerned about how the Greater Manchester Spatial
Framework will affect Mirrlees Fields. It is Stockport Liberal Democrat policy to oppose all building
on green belt and community green spaces until all options to build on brownfield sites have been
exhausted. In line with this policy we will continue to oppose any suggestion that Mirrlees Fields
should be built on as other more appropriate spaces are available and these fields are an asset to
the local community.

A number of residents had concerns about the amount of parked cars in the area, particularly when
they are parking irresponsibly. We are aware that this is an ongoing issue in the area and there
was a resent meeting at Stepping Hill Hospital to discuss the parking problems. There have been
some proposals put forward about how to improve this situation and although these are all in their
early stages we will keep you informed of any developments regarding this.

There were some concerns about the general state of the pavements and infrastructure in the area
of which some are easier to solve than others. With regard to street sweeping and managements
of the plants in the area this has been reported to the council and we hope the situation will now
improve but we will continue to monitor the situation and are happy to contact the council again
as and when required.

With regard to extra street lighting near Woodsmoor station this has been brought to the council’s
attention and we will continue to press for this. It was also mentioned that the road layout on
Woodsmoor Lane is not fit for purpose and seems unsafe. Due to the low number of accidents
reported at this junction the council are unlikely to make any changes to it at this time but if the
situation changed we would certainly raise this with them again.
